Paperclip judges SPARK 2018!

Happy Friday users and followers!

Sorry for being so quiet for the last couple of weeks. The team at Paperclip HQ have been super busy re-skinning the Paperclip app, adding new features and rolling out private marketplaces up and down the country.

But today it was Rich and Laurence's turn to go head back to campus!

Sadly, this wasn't a freshers party. Instead, the guys were asked to judge this terms Cardiff SPARK awards at the famous Cardiff University.

A mere stones throw from Paperclip HQ, the two saddled up and made the short journey from the city centre to Cathays.

We joined the welcome party and introduced ourselves to the fellow judges. This year we had representatives from both S3 Advertising and TramShed. Before we knew it, the first contestants were up to share their big idea...

The contestants

First up was Daybreak Tickets, a fledgling company who want to revolutionise event ticketing and resale by utilising Blockchain technology. They stepped up and blew the judges away with their composure, eloquence and enthusiasm.

After that, we had a troupe of entrepreneurs looking to develop their products, services and events.

However, there were two stand-out contestants. The first was SQUISH: Flexible Food Storage, an innovative solution to all that leaky, unsightly tupperware taking up space in your kitchen. A environmentally-friendly, stackable, silicone alternative already used by some of the top sports sides across England and Wales.

The second, Ty Ni. A concept based around home energy efficiency issues in South Wales. A spirited pitch from founder Paddy dug deep into growing need and desire to track ones energy consumption and utilize affordable energy saving products currently on the market. This well-researched concept that ended up as a worthy winner, with both SQUISH and Daybreak Tickets coming in as runners-up.

Onward and upwards...

Paperclip are offering both business and tech support to all SPARK contestants and cant wait to be on the judge's panel again come 2019.
